Spring 2021 President’s Message
With many of us receiving our first and second COVID vaccines and spring blossoming along the Mendonoma Coast, the world looks brighter! The Board and volunteers of the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy have been busy managing the impacts of lots of people visiting our coastal beaches and trails.
Mill Bend also requires a significant amount of time and planning on the part of our extremely talented Mill Bend Project Manager, Dave Shpak, and RCLC’s Stewardship Committee. We hope you’ll join us on April 11, 2021, from 3-5 pm to hear from our planning consultants, Prunuske Chatham Inc. on their recommended public access and trail improvements for Mill Bend. We want your input so please join us!
We’ve been working to take care of Mill Bend with our increasing number of stewardship volunteers, and seeking state grant funding to restore the salmonid population in the Gualala River Estuary, as well as to build trails and public access facilities.
RCLC is also undertaking some innovative partnerships with nonprofits in the community. We are applying for grant funding to support our newest partnership with Action Network to create an Environmental and Cultural Outreach Program for local school kids and their families. This will take time, but we should know if we’re successful with our grant requests by the Fall of 2021. RCLC is also seeking grant support for our partnership with the Mendocino Land Trust, to efficiently share some of their staff time to help us write grants, improve our donor outreach and responsibly build our organizational capacity.
There’s lots to do and we are so grateful for all your help and support!
Thank you,
Tina Batt
RCLC Board President
